Israel put their trust in their own righteousness and failed to submit to God’s righteous Son. What God asks of all of us is not too hard: we are to keep confessing and keep believing.

Chosen

Though the Jews were God’s chosen people, many rejected the Messiah. God demonstrated His sovereignty by executing His plan of salvation through their rejection, drawing to Himself all who would receive Him.

God Is Always Fair

Through His foreknowledge, God sovereignly “sets aside” Esau and extends grace to Jacob. It is through Jacob that the nations will be blessed. In this study, we see that God uses the hardness of human hearts to accomplish His purposes.

What About Israel?

The rejection of Christ has brought deep heartache to Israel, God’s elect. True Israel to be ruled by God. As we walk through the next three chapters, we will learn what our attitude and relationship should be toward God’s ancient people.

Loved and Called

Through many trials and tribulations, the children of God persevere. We understand that all things work together for good. Since God has given His Son, we are confident that He will freely give us all things; therefore, we continue in the faith.

The Children of God

As sons and heirs, we eagerly await redemption. When all of creation is set free from bondage and our Father’s glory is revealed in us, we will understand that any suffering or sacrifice on our part was nothing in comparison. Our hope is in Him.

Spiritually Minded

Those who are in Christ are at peace with God, having His Spirit dwelling within them. He guides them into all truth. If we are led by Him, we are His children and His heirs.

No Condemnation

False prophets, false teachers, and wolves are those who promote the law of sin and death. They live with disregard for God and use guilt to control others into following them. But for those who are in Christ, there is freedom as we walk out our faith with deep reverence for the One who loves our soul.

The War Within

All of mankind is defective and possesses a fleshly nature. It is through the Spirit that we are able to wage war against our flesh, and it is Christ who delivers us from the law of sin and death.

No Victory Is Found in the Law

While the law is good and given to govern the hearts of men, true power is found through God. The believer overcomes sin when he thirsts, comes, and drinks of His Spirit.
