Author: Not stated but according to church tradition, the apostle John.
Date: Approximately AD 92.
In Ten Words or Less: Jesus was real man just as He is real God.
Details: First John tackles a strange heresy that claimed Jesus had been on earth only in spirit, not in body: “Every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist” (4:3). John wrote that he knew Jesus personally, as one “which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled” (1:1), and that knowledge leads to a saving belief in Jesus. Saving belief leads to obedience, but even when we sin, we know that God “is faithful and just to forgive us our sins” when we confess (1:9).

How to be Filled With the Spirit
As we finish the second chapter of First John, John informs us of the Holy Spirit’s role in protecting us from deceivers. Being able to say that we have finished what God has given us to accomplish is totally dependent on the Spirit’s work in our life. But how can we be filled? Join us as John leads us in an understanding of the Spirit’s role in the life of the believer.
How the Spirit of Antichrist is to Be Overcome
In First John Chapter 2, John lays out who our enemies are. He tells us that among them will be many Antichrists. Even though the Church will face powerful adversaries, God has given us two resources. John tells us that if we’ll take advantage of those resources, our victory over darkness will be guaranteed. Join us as we continue our verse by verse study in 1 John.

How to Have Fellowship with God
John the Apostle has told us that as the followers of Christ we can have fellowship with God. The early church was being attacked by an early form of Gnosticism. The Gnostics claimed they could bring a person into fellowship with God through their superior secret knowledge. John steps in and tells us anyone can have fellowship with God, and it isn’t a complicated process. Join us as we learn the simple step in drawing close to God.
The Meaning of Fellowship
American Christians have developed their own version of Christianity that can lead them away from God’s ideal. And one area where this might be true is the area of what the Bible refers to as fellowship. We speak of having a “fellowship time” and churches often have a “fellowship hall”. But these concepts fall short of what the Bible is talking about. Join us as we continue through First John as the Apostle gives us a clear understanding of what fellowship is all about.
What are the Fundamentals of Christianity?
As we begin a new study in First John, the Apostle starts by taking us back to basics. The church at the end of the first century was being attacked, and the result of this attack was confusion in the church. First John will be a wonderful study, for here John speaks with both simplicity and clarity. Join us as we are taken back to the basics.
